Here are links to information about some of the political and community projects I am
working on now:
Neighborhood Networks
is a culturally and racially
diverse organization of Philadelphians dedicated to advancing social equality,
economic justice and resource stewardship by influencing political
decision-making from a grassroots level. We aim to create a powerful coalition
by connecting neighbors at the division and ward levels and by forming strategic
alliances with like-minded organizations throughout the City of Philadelphia
and, eventually, beyond. Our movement will educate, organize and mobilize voters
to support progressive political and social change and to sponsor or support
progressive political candidates in local, state, and national elections. I was
one of the founders of the organization, serve on the Executive and Steering
Committees and am now the Chair of the Issues Committee.
I was the president of the Philadelphia Transit Campaign and
a member of the steering committee and webmaster for the
Pennsylvania Transit Coalition.
These organizations are working to improve public transportation in our
region and state. Since successfully lobbying for the funding that saved the
SEPTA system last year and this year, we have been planning new initiatives
for improving transit and also preparing to continue the fight for dedicated
funding for public transit.
The Philadelphia Campaign for Housing Justice is working to bring
Inclusionary Housing to Philadelphia. I have blogged
about our efforts a number of times.
The 2124 Report
contains election information
for residents of the 24th Division of the 21st Ward, which I serve as a
Democratic Committeeman as well as links to our elected officials and other important web sites.
This is updated a month or two before each primary and general election.
I have posted a selection of
press clips about my work as a political and community
activist and the groups with which I have been associated in the last few years.
Press reports after January 1, 2007 can be found
on my council campaign website

Some of the projects I have worked on in the past
For six years I served as President and, before that, Vice President for
Community Relations of West
Mt. Airy Neighbors (WMAN), a volunteer community organization
committed to preserving and enhancing the quality of life and the diversity
of West Mt. Airy. A list of some of WMAN's accomplishments during that time
can be found here. My first project at West Mt. Airy Neighbors was
to write most of the biographies of the
40 Good Neighbors honored at celebration of the 40th Anniversary of WMAN
and an Introduction
to those biographies. Taken together, they give us a a unique outlook on
this wonderful neighborhoods. The websites for my campaign for
Council at Large in Philadelphia and the
Democratic Nomination as State
Representative in the 198th District will remain available for some
time as many of the issues I raised during these campaigns remain
important to the city. The Minimum
Wage Coalition worked
successfully to raise the minimum wage in Pennsylvania in two steps to
$7.15. I was a member of the steering committee of the group
