Stopping
Crime
There
is no agency of government as necessary and important to our liberties
is the police. If we are not secure from the threat of violence, we
cannot exercise any other of our other liberties. Our safety and
security depend upon effective, well-trained, and well-paid police
forces. Most policemen in Philadelphia,
and most members of the State Police, fit this description. We owed them
an enormous debt. And we should reward them accordingly by making them
the best paid police force in America.
While
policing is mostly a local matter in Philadelphia,
as a state legislator I would take action to insist that sufficient and
equal police resources are made available to all citizens in the 198th
district and in the city as a whole. I would also insure that money is
provided to support town watches in every part of the district. Each
town watch should be provided with uniforms and walkie-talkies or cell
phones. If legislation is needed to provide this support for town
watches, I will introduce it.
Until
the Police Department has all the resources it needs, every community
has to struggle for the attention of the police. Just as I did at the
head of my community organization, as your representative I will fight
to make sure that an adequate share of city resources are devoted to
every community in the Northwest.
