Marcs Leadership of the Northwest Campaign for Public Transportation
When SEPTA threatened to discontinue the R8 train in the spring of 2003,
Marc led the effort to create the Northwest Campaign for Public
Transportation (NCPT). The NCPT is a coalition of community
groups from Germantown, East Falls, Mt. Airy and Chestnut Hill. The
NCPTs petition drive collected over 8000 signatures. NCPT
representatives testified at public hearings. And Marc led a protest
rally that began on the R8 in Chestnut Hill and continued at the
Convention Center where SEPTA was holding hearings on its plans. The
NCPT is working to restore half-hour mid-day service on the R8 by
organizing the community and lobbying SEPTA and Governor Rendell. As a
representative of the NCPT, Marc has also worked with transit advocacy
groups throughout Philadelphia and across
the state to increase state funding for public transit. He has traveled
to Harrisburg to lobby state legislators
and to speak at public rally for mass transit.
